Join other members of the Royal Phil for our annual soirée to celebrate the commencement of the 224th session.
The event will feature an exploration of Scotland’s film history and an opportunity to meet other members over drinks and nibbles. The talk will be given by Liam Paterson, Assistant Curator of Moving Image, Sound and Music Collections at the National Library of Scotland.
This illustrated talk on the curatorial work of the library’s Moving Image Archive at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow will include:
- An introduction to the history of the archive and the challenges faced in collecting and preserving a wide range of film, video and born-digital items, in particular the dangers of nitrate film
- Insights into the range of genres and subjects in the collections, from amateur home movies to feature films
- Some examples of the extraordinary connections discovered during the work of curation
